15. Done makes money. Perfect doesn’t

There are things in your business right now that are costing you money.
Not because they’re bad, or because they won’t work. Just because they’re not finished.
In this episode, Claire talks about all the half-done things that sit on your to-do list for weeks, months, sometimes years. The newsletter you meant to send. The product you started but haven’t listed. The freebie you nearly finished. The page you never quite published.
None of them are doing anything for you. Because they’re not out there.
Claire shares why this happens (and yes, she does it too), and why waiting until something feels “ready” is what keeps it stuck.
Inside this episode, you’ll see how to:
- Stop leaving things unfinished
- Let go of the idea that it needs to be perfect
- Get your work out there, even if it’s not your best
- Start turning what you’ve already created into actual results
Because nobody sees the perfect version in your head.
They only see what you put out into the world.
And until you finish it, it can’t do anything for you.
Welcome to the Girls Mean Business Podcast, where we share business and marketing tips, advice and trade secrets to help you raise your game and build your brilliant business. Get more clarity, more customers, and more sales. Here to show you how.
SPEAKER_00Your host, Claire Mitchell. Hello, it's Claire from the Girls Meme Business, and today I want to talk to you about something that is costing you money and you probably don't realise it. And it is all the things that you haven't finished. So the newsletter you've been meaning to send for three weeks or three months or three years, the product that you made but you haven't listed yet, the web page that's been half-written since last October, the Instagram account that you set up and then you left, the freebie that you planned to build your list that you started and then got stuck on because you couldn't decide what to call it. Every single one of those things is earning you nothing, and it will keep earning you nothing until it's finished and out there. So today's message is done beats perfect every time. Now I know what happens because it happens to me too. You get excited about something and you start it, and then somewhere in the middle, it starts to feel harder or messier or less good than you thought it would be. And instead of just pushing through and finishing it, you put it to one side, and it sits there. And then the longer it sits there, the more it feels like a big thing, and the harder it becomes to go back to it and restart it. And like I said, I do this, I have done this many times. I've started things and abandoned them because they weren't going to be perfect. And then when I look back at the things that have actually built my business, none of them were perfect when they went out. None of them. My first newsletter was okay, it did the job, it wasn't brilliant, but it was alright. My first podcast was a bit rubbish. But people still listened to it. My first product had typos in the workbook that I didn't find until somebody pointed them out. But people still bought it, they still listened and watched and they still came back for more. Because what they cared about was the content, not whether everything was perfect. So here's the thing nobody apart from you knows what your perfect version was going to be like. They don't know it was supposed to be better than the one that you released, they only ever see what you actually put out there. So that version in your head where everything is perfect and beautiful is invisible and it doesn't exist for anybody except you. So it happens in lots of different ways. It might be somebody who is a baker who makes beautiful wedding cakes and buns and things, who's been developing a new flavour for months, and they just keep tweaking it and tweaking it and tweaking it, instead of putting it out there on the menu and seeing if people actually want it. It might be a maker or a craftsperson who has a brilliant idea for a new product but she hasn't made it and sold it yet because she's not happy with the packaging. Or it might be a therapist who wrote a brilliant freebie lead magnet six months ago and she never finished it because she wasn't sure it was it was good enough. So none of those things are making money, they're not selling, they are not out there, they are not building your list, and they all have one thing in common. They're all waiting to be perfect before they're allowed to do that. So here's what I want you to do. Pick one thing that's been sitting there unfinished. I'm sure you've got more than one, but just pick one and finish it this week. Just finish it. Don't think about how imperfect it is, just blummin finish it. Get the newsletter out, list the product, publish the web page, record the video, send the email. It doesn't have to be the best thing you've ever done, it just has to be done. Because until it is, it can't do anything for you. It can't find your customers, it can't build your list, it can't make any money, it can't grow your business. Just get it done because done is the only thing that counts. Lots of love. Bye for now.
